Essential criteria


  • PhD or equivalent in an area relevant to the Faculty and/or in Education 

  • Detailed knowledge of regulatory and quality frameworks for Nursing, Midwifery and Palliative Care Higher Education and of other strategic issues in higher education Lead and manage learning and teaching activity 

  • Excellent leadership skills, with the ability to promote excellence in learning and teaching, to inspire, motivate and performance manage others, and honed communication, interpersonal, networking, teamwork and influencing skills
  • Excellent organizational skills: with excellent time and project management and leadership ability to support the organizational aspects of teaching, learning and research, yet flexible and able to respond in a timely way to opportunities

  • Extensive leadership experience in the higher education sector, including teaching, course development and appraisal, assessment of markets and development and delivery of education business plans and new or revised relevant undergraduate and postgraduate programmes
The Practice of Nursing Research
  • Ability to talent spot, attract and foster talented educators into the fields

  • Understanding and commitment to the contribution of research and evidence advances to education, and high level of scholarship or research in a field relevant to this post, with future vision for that field, as appropriate for a Professor level (or Readership, if deemed appropriate)

  • Managing and working in collaboration with professional service staff responsible for supporting teaching and learning

  • Publishing in peer review journals, and if on the research and teaching post externally won grant income, as appropriate for the role and status at King’s

  • Experience of and commitment to partnering with healthcare Trusts and others to foster relations

  • Proven commitment to equality, diversity, and inclusion, with examples of initiatives or achievements

  • Strong performance/outcome focused approach to delivering local and organisational objectives

  • Commitment to the promotion of high standards and excellence, and to increase digital education offering in the Faculty

  • Willingness and ability to teach and contribute to the pastoral care of students


Desirable criteria

  • A recognised Higher Education (HE) teaching qualification

  • Previous senior Academic leadership

  • Supervision of research students
