King’s Business School is the ninth and newest faculty at King’s College London, emerging out of the renowned School of Management & Business. King’s Business School is a research-intensive school, which has the benefit of being integrated within a world-leading, multi-faculty institution. The School is based in the iconic Bush House building in central London, from where it forms a hub for engagement with business, the City, public sector organisations, government and NGOs. Figures and focus

King’s Business School currently comprises a growing body of 140 academic staff and 60 professional services staff and is led by Executive Dean, Professor Stephen Bach. Under Professor Bach, the School is establishing a distinctive approach that reflects the new challenges facing business, government and start-ups in a more volatile and uncertain world.

With over 3,000 students the School delivers a comprehensive education portfolio, from its undergraduate programmes (Business Management, International Management, Economics & Management, Accounting & Finance, Health Care Management, Mathematics with Management & Finance and Economics) to a wide-range of specialist MSc programmes covering Human Resources Management & Organisational Analysis, Accounting, Accountability & Financial Management, Economics & Finance, Executive Management, Finance Analytics, Corporate Finance, Asset Pricing, Banking and Finance, International Marketing, Marketing & Digital Marketing, Strategic Entrepreneurship & Innovation, Management Research, International Management, and Public Services Management. The School has two fully online Master’s programmes, a developing executive education portfolio and a number of collaborative programmes with other faculties. A growing postgraduate research programme with 90 doctoral students spans all of the School’s management disciplines.
In the last Research Excellence Framework exercise (2014) the School was ranked 8th amongst all universities in Britain, with over half of its submitted impact case studies being classified 4*, representing world-leading in terms of originality, significance and rigour. More recently, the School has focused on advancing research on the interdisciplinary themes of Digitalisation, The Future of Work, Global Business Strategy and Governance, Risk and Regulation. The School has now launched four Research Centres in support of this strategic investment, reflecting the most challenging and important issues confronting today’s scholars, practitioners and policy makers.
Research within the School currently falls into seven research groups underpinned by a common set of values – being rigorous, relevant, inclusive and innovative. Each runs a programme of research related activities including seminars, funded projects and engagement with policymakers, practitioners and other scholars from within and beyond King’s College London.

Executive education

Building on recent success, the evolution of the executive education portfolio builds on the history of entrepreneurial activities by the faculty and now seeks to solidify and professionalise this to properly support a number of key objectives. We will be launching a post-experience general management degree that will offer a MBA award, specifically an Executive MBA (or EMBA) targeted at a senior working professional audience. We will offer products and services that help shape and define industry and individuals to ensure we are front of mind when considering their choice of a development partner.
Our strategic objectives in establishing this programme include: 

  • Extending our education provision to a post-experience audience 
  • Generating additional revenue through diversification of our portfolio 
  • Connecting further into business and into London and build a senior alumni base to support KBS activities more widely (research, UG/PG opportunities, philanthropy etc) 
  • Building, feeding and supporting the executive education courses and opportunities and vice versa by establishing KBS and KCL as a real and visible partner for organisational learning and an ecosystem for executives 
  • Providing academics with the opportunity to teach and engage with business and senior business executives in real time and leverage these interactions within their portfolio of other work 
  • To raise KBS’ profile and further embed our reputation by creating a programme that can be ranked and will further boost our visibility 

Our areas of expertise

We will provide tools and insights from interdisciplinary and cross functional teams from across King’s. Our offer will be thematically focused:

  • Building productivity, purpose and sustainability through meaningful and impactful engagement of employees and stakeholders
  • Responding to technological and digital change and the impact of this on work and business
  • A general management suite that provides a fundamental basis for good organisations and leadership

Programmes have already been launched, with further activity planned for 2022 onwards. The incoming Professor of Leadership will have opportunities to build upon and influence the success of the executive programmes, specifically relating to leadership courses.

Human Resource Management & Employment Relations  


About the HRM and Employment Relations Subject Group 

The HRM & ER group has responsibility for running the highly regarded MSc in HRM and Organisational Analysis, as well as teaching a very wide range of core and optional modules across generalist UG and PG programmes within the School. We are looking for a highly experienced Professor of Leadership to contribute at a strategic level to the design and delivery of leadership education at undergraduate, postgraduate and, especially, at executive levels where we are currently expanding our offerings.
The successful applicant will join the HRM & Employment Relations Group but may, depending on expertise, be offered a joint appointment with another subject group such as Strategy, International Management and Entrepreneurship, or Public Sector Management and Organisation.  The HRM group’s multi-disciplinary research spans the fields of human resource management, organizational behaviour and employment relations. We are interested in understanding how the changing nature of work and employment affects individuals, organizations and society.

Employment Relations

Our work on employment relations examines issues around the world, from globalization and industrial relations to the changing role of trade unions and how they can maintain influence. Key themes include:

Human Resource Management

Research within the group on HRM focuses on contemporary issues such as careers, retirement, HR systems and strategies, inequality, gender, engagement and meaningful work. Key themes include:

Our organizational behaviour research focuses on a range of core topics related to individual attitudes and behaviours at work. In particular, we are currently investigating the following themes:
