Essential criteria


  • Higher academic degree (PhD or medical equivalent)

  • Demonstrated experience or potential in academic leadership

  • Possess in-depth understanding of the discipline to enable the development of new knowledge, innovation and understanding within the field

  • An international research profile in the relevant field

  • People management skills; the ability to nurture a collaborative, inclusive and supportive environment

  • A significant track record of research income generation as PI

  • A demonstrable commitment to an inclusive, diverse and collegial approach to education and research.


Desirable criteria


  • Experience of interdisciplinary research

  • Evidence of working at a strategic level

  • Personally orientated towards change and ability to lead others through change

  • Previous leadership/management experience with measurable impact

  • Manages resources through effective delegation and evidence of managing the performance of others to achieve required goals

  • Experience in recruitment and selection of high calibre staff

  • Experience of developing a strategic plan and accompanying budget responsibility

  • Experience of working internationally or of leading staff in international settings

  • Evidence of high-quality teaching at undergraduate and postgraduate level

  • Supervision of undergraduate projects and/or postgraduate research students.
