The Faculty of Life Sciences & Medicine at King’s College London is one of Europe’s largest and most prestigious centres for biomedical education and research. A powerhouse of discovery and innovation, our collective ambition is to deliver tangible improvements to patient care, population health and societal wellbeing.
Our vibrant community is comprised of seven Schools and a Centre for Education, over 1,200 academic and research staff, and over 6,000 talented students who enjoy a challenging and enriching university experience that is enhanced by our unparalleled research breadth and interdisciplinarity.

This research spans an extraordinary range from answering fundamental questions about biology in health and disease through to developing individualised patient care options and undertaking clinical trials of novel treatments.
Centre for Education
The Faculty is home to some of the UK’s most esteemed research centres, including the NIHR Biomedical Research Centre at Guy’s and St Thomas’ NHS Foundation Trust and King’s College London, the British Heart Foundation Centre of Research Excellence and Cancer Research UK’s City of London Centre. The Faculty is also central to the founding partnership King’s College London holds with the Francis Crick Institute.

The Faculty plays a pivotal role in King’s strategic alliance with three of London’s leading NHS Foundation Trusts: Guy’s and St Thomas’ (now incorporating Royal Brompton & Harefield); King’s College Hospital; and South London and Maudsley. Together we form King’s Health Partners, one of only eight accredited Academic Health Sciences Centres (AHSCs) in England, with a joint commitment to ensure faster translation and adoption of research innovation into clinical practice. Our AHSC is distinct through our pioneering work integrating mental and physical healthcare.
Students and enhancing the student experience are at the heart of our Faculty’s strategy. Our comprehensive portfolio includes undergraduate health professions programmes (Medicine, Nutrition & Dietetics, Pharmacy, and Physiotherapy) and a wide range of postgraduate taught programmes. Our commitment to broaden participation in higher education is exemplified by our recently expanded flagship Extended Medical Degree Programme. And our graduates are distinguished not just by their knowledge but by their critical thought, service ethic and global mindset.
Research students
We are now seeking to appoint an outstanding individual to the role of Executive Dean to lead the Faculty, building on our local and global impact by developing and delivering an ambitious strategy at this critical time as the world recovers from the COVID-19 pandemic. The successful candidate will be a leader with significant experience of management and leading change, with a distinguished profile in a field relevant to the Faculty’s portfolio.

The Faculty of Life Sciences & Medicine is proud to hold an Athena SWAN Silver Award. We expect our next Executive Dean to be committed to embedding an inclusive environment that celebrates and enables the diversity of our students and staff in everything that we do.

Thank you for your interest in what I believe to be one of the most exciting leadership roles in UK Bio-medical Sciences.
