The Institute of Psychiatry, Psychology & Neuroscience (IoPPN) at King’s College London is a world leading mental health and neuroscience academic enterprise. Our research and education has impact locally, nationally and globally, and work across the IoPPN continues to fundamentally change and shape the understanding of mental illness and neurological disorders, leading to novel therapies and approaches to health and wellbeing.
Comprised of three schools, and with over 1000 academic and research staff and more than 4000 under and post-graduate students, the IoPPN includes the largest centre for mental health research and education in Europe. Our vibrant community of academics work together to translate insights from discovery science (including neuroscience, genomics, social science and psychology) to interventions to improve patient care and quality of life. With the advantage of being co-located with King’s College Hospital NHS Foundation Trust and the Maudsley Hospital at Denmark Hill and Guy’s Hospital at London Bridge, the legacy, ethos and drive of the IoPPN has ensured its position at the forefront of innovation in mental health and neurological health care.
The excellent quality of research and positive impact that the IoPPN makes to global society is recognised in the REF 2021 results, with 93% of Impact Case studies considered world-leading and its research environment also being assessed as 100% 4*. The IoPPN’s focus on quality extends to its growing education portfolio, where consistently high NSS scores place the Faculty amongst the top courses in the country, with 88.3% of students in 2022 reporting overall satisfaction with their course.
We are now seeking to appoint the next Executive Dean, who will build on our local and global relevance by developing and delivering an ambitious strategy as the world recovers from the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic. In doing so we recognise and foster the dynamic and inclusive culture of the Faculty, and to support a community that prides itself in welcoming staff and students from local neighbourhoods and across the globe.
The successful candidate will be a leader with significant experience of management and leading change, with a distinguished profile in a field relevant to the Faculty’s portfolio and a passion for bringing to fruition IoPPN’s mission of bringing together all the disciplines of importance for mental health and neurology, with the aim of improving health and wellbeing through world-class research, education and training.
